Propofol-Induced Vasodilation: The Cart Before the Horse? - Journal of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia: IN THIS ISSUE of the Journal of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Anesthesia, Dogan et al.
present a study titled “Propofol-Induced Vasodilation in Human Internal Mammary Artery:
Role of Potassium Channels” aimed at identifying the mechanism involved in propofol-mediated
vasodilation of the internal mammary artery (IMA) in vitro.1 The authors conclude
that propofol use in coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery may have favorable
vasodilator effects to overcome perioperative vasospasm of the IMA.
